There are conservative families on this earth wherein conducting even the simplest activities for women is considered as taboo. However, in my experience, there are many ladies who think twice even before wearing simple fashionable hippie headbands. There is no immediate explanation regarding this but i am amazed to see the opposition against bright vibrant colors. The opposition is not something very obvious but it rather rests in the mind. Some ladies have the view that wearing that adorning vibrant hippie headbands may lower their overall prestige in the society.

Check any culture where freedom is appreciated and you will easily find that hippie styled headbands widely accepted by women of all ages.
I also don't understand about the beliefs that wearing colorful attires will make you look non-serious about life. After all, look at people who are really serious about their lives. What have they really achieved is really beyond my understanding.
So, come on, it is time to appreciate and accept these wonderful accessories!
